The other day, out of the blue, Ric referred to someone as Weaslemama and I thought of you. :-)

Hi, I'm a regular reader of your blog and interested to hear that you're thinking of coming over to England. I'm a teacher over here, so if you have any questions about teaching in England, feel free to email me - our system is very different to yours - for example we're expected to teach a range of years whereas I believe in the US you only teach one year group (I could be wrong about the US system though as I don't know much about it!).

It's funny that as soon as you left, it got really warm here...and then as soon as it's officially fall and you come back...it rains and feels like Nov. Sigh. :-)

When I read your entry about the 2 1/2 hour periods, it reminded me of something I heard about middle schoolers--they can only focus on something for about fifteen minutes at a time. I try to plan three different activities in an 80 minute period to deal with that. I also try to incorporate movement naturally, like with the give-one, get-one pre-reading activity, or with transistions, so they are moving but it is somewhat under MY control. It sounds like things are going well for the most part though. I totally relate to not being the coolest teacher anymore. I hate that! At my old school I was it, and here I am just one of many. Good for the kids, but not good for my ego.

Okay, I'm freaking out. I TOTALLY remember when Days of Our LIves kept getting interrupted for that stupid war. I haven't watched it in a long time (maybe this summer) but I used to watch it religiously as a kid. I couldn't believe it that they actually brought back the real Jack and Jennifer (the last I saw, though, they killed off Jack, or did they?) I think it's fun you watched it, too.
